The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire has achieved a 5-star Global NCAP rating, making it the first model from India’s biggest carmaker to do so. The rating is based on the car’s performance in adult and child occupant protection tests. The Dzire scored 31.24 out of 34 points in adult safety and 39.20 out of 49 points in child safety.
The tested model was equipped with six airbags, ESC, 3-point seatbelts with reminder for all seats, ISOFIX mounts for the rear outboard seats, and front seatbelt pretensioner and load limiter and it was also compliant with UN 127 pedestrian protection norms.
Adult occupant protection
According to the crash test report released by Global NCAP, the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. Driver’s chest showed marginal protection and the passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. Driver’s and passenger’s knees showed good protection, driver’s and passenger’s tibias showed adequate protection, and the footwell area was rated as stable. The bodyshell was rated as stable and it is capable of withstanding further loadings.
Child occupant protection
The Dzire’s performance in the child occupant protection test was also impressive. The car received a 4-star rating for child safety. This is due in part to the standard fitment of ISOFIX anchorages in the rear seats, which allow for the secure installation of compatible child seats.
The child seat for the 3 year old was installed forward facing using the ISOFIX anchorages and a top tether and it was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the frontal impact offering full protection to the head and chest but limited protection to the neck. The child seat for the 18 month old was installed rearward facing using the ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg and it was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection.
On side impact both 18 month old and 3 year old CRS showed full protection during the crash.
