Former Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant has agreed to drive in the 2025 European Le Mans Series, joining Jamie Chadwick at the new LMP2 entry run by Genesis and IDEC Sport.

On Wednesday, Hyundai luxury brand Genesis announced the first details of its Genesis Magma Racing hypercar programme for 2026, when it will enter the GMR-001 in the World Endurance Championship, including the Le Mans 24 Hours. In 2027 it will also join the IMSA Sportscar Championship.

As part of its preparation Genesis will also enter a car in ELMS next year, joining forces with established French sportscar outfit IDEC Sport to help prepare its team on an operational level.

It has landed Sargeant as one of its drivers for the LMP2 programme, which will come after he drove two races for TF Sport in the 2021 ELMS season where he finished fourth at the Red Bull Ring and seventh in Monza.

The 23-year-old will be joined by three-time W Series champion and Indy NXT race winner Jamie Chadwick, as well as young French talent Mathys Jaubert.

It is set to be Sargeant’s first competitive drive since losing his WIlliams F1 seat midway through the 2024 season, being replaced by Franco Colapinto for September’s Italian Grand Prix after 18 frustrating months with the squad.

Sargeant recently had his first taste of IndyCar at a test with Meyer Shank Racing at the Thermal Club road course in California, but preliminary talks to land a seat in the US series didn’t materialise thus far.

His LMP2 campaign could lead to a full-time Hypercar seat from 2026, with the Hyundai brand committed to entering two cars in WEC that year and another two cars in IMSA the season after.

On Wednesday, the manufacturer announced it had hired three-time Le Mans winner and reigning WEC champion Andre Lotterer and IMSA ace Pipo Derani as its first two works drivers.

The experienced pair, who join from Porsche Penske and Cadillac respectively, will be leading Genesis’ development programme with the Oreca-based LMDh car next year.
